COLUMNS
Inaugural
column:
Welcome to the first column of AdrianBruneau.com.
This column can be separated into three parts; first
some commentary on why I ran for elective office, second;
general commentary on my political philosophy, third;
commentary on my goals for this website.
Why I ran for elective office: First, an explanation
and criticism of the 2007 special election. My Father’s
decision to retire early (that we agreed upon as a family)
was not a great political maneuver but for him personally,
from a Son’s perspective, it was the best thing
he ever did. Time will judge that my Father, Peppi,
was an amazing legislator that passed pivotal legislation
that reformed the election laws, hardened ethics legislation
and that he fought tirelessly for the constituents of
District 94. My brother Jeb ran for office because he
wanted to help District 94, time will judge that he
was the leader of Lakeview that brought about the genesis
of a recovery, for which he should be commended. My
decision to run was based upon my belief that I could
lead District 94 with innovative solutions to the many
challenges we faced and continue to face. I believe
that had an early retirement not occurred and a special
election had not taken place I would not have been judged
on voter angst against continuation of a perceived political
dynasty but on the policies and solutions I put forth.
For those that know me I am a standalone man, this race
to me was not about a last name but about leading a
recovery of a district destroyed by Katrina.
For an in depth description of my political philosophy
visit: My
Philosophy. I am a fiscally conservative,
mainstream, Republican. I believe strongly in the principle
that less government is best government. Personally,
I am pro-life but I do not believe government should
wade into morality debates that I view as between an
individual and God. I am a staunch supporter of the
NRA and gun owner’s rights. I believe that you
need to be registered in one political party or the
other (Republican or Democrat), otherwise you are a
tree in the political wilderness. And while I believe
in that principle I do not believe partisanship for
the sake of politics achieves anything, study the issue,
there will always be some degree of compromise involved
to find a resolution. I believe in a strong foreign
policy, we must engage on the world stage economically
and continue to foster the principles of democracy around
the world. When challenged with terrorism, hostile nations
or hostile acts, we must meet our enemies head on and
strike hard, the military option is a component of diplomacy,
I AM A HAWK. I believe we had the opportunity of the
century to rebuild after Katrina and the leadership
at the executive level in New Orleans and the state
of Louisiana failed miserably in that endeavor. I am
an optimistic-realist; we should look for the good in
all things but never believe a forecast of, “pie
in the sky.”
My
goals for AdrianBruneau.com: I have four basic goals;
1) Function as a medium to inform the public as to the
proceedings of government and neighborhood civic groups.
2) Keep the voting public informed on the promises made
and promises kept of our elected leaders.
3) Give my opinion and the opinion of guest columnists
on issues relating to government operation, public policy
and politics as they relate to local, state and national
issues.
4) Encourage people to stop being gerbils and lemmings,
practice independent thought and get involved civically,
politically and charitably.
This website is an interactive tool and I invite feedback
to any opinion expressed here, be prepared for my counter-commentary
(this is a ‘no holds barred’ arena). I would
like to invite all civic groups to place their minutes
here, in .pdf format (send me an email.) If you would
like to receive columns and updates please sign up here
(link). If you have a guest column I invite your editorial.
Thank
you,
Adrian Bruneau
